Abitur & IB

Abitur and International Baccalaureate
A Dual Diploma Programme at Goetheschule Essen

As a certified International IB World School, Goetheschule Essen has been offering motivated students the opportunity to study towards the Abitur & International Baccalaureate (IB) since 2007.

An average of five additional lessons per week in Year 12 and 13 is sufficient to prepare for a dual diploma, as Upper School guidelines for North Rhine-Westphalia and IB curriculum requirements have been efficiently combined.

Why choose the Internaional Baccalaureate (IB) Programme?

The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme offers a number of advantages for students, including the promotion of multilingualism and advanced language skills. The programme encourages students to study at least two languages, and many students choose to study additional languages beyond the minimum requirement. This not only helps students become proficient in multiple languages, but also enhances their communication skills and cultural understanding.

The IB programme also utilizes a rigorous assessment process, which helps students develop critical thinking and analytical skills.

Additionally, the programme encourages the use of different teaching methods and approaches, which can help students learn in a way that is tailored to their individual needs and learning styles.

Another advantage is that the International Baccalaureate (IB) programme offers a wide range of subject combinations and levels of difficulty in exams. This allows students to focus on the subjects they are most interested in and excel at, while also challenging themselves to learn new material and push their limits. For example, students can choose to take higher level (HL) or standard level (SL) exams in different subjects, depending on their interests and strengths. This flexibility allows students to tailor their studies to their individual goals and needs, and can help students develop their talents and skills in specific areas.

Additionally, the IB programme encourages students to engage in extracurricular activities, such as sports, music, acting and creative writing, which can further nurture and develop their talents.

Why choose individual IB Courses?

Taking individual International Baccalaureate (IB) courses is another great way for students to deepen their knowledge in specific subject areas and prepare for university. These courses are designed to be challenging and rigorous, and they cover a wide range of subject matter in depth. This can be particularly beneficial for students who are interested in pursuing a particular field of study in university, as the IB courses can provide them with a solid foundation of knowledge and skills in that area.

Additionally, the IB courses are recognized by universities around the world, so completing them can help students stand out in the college admissions process and demonstrate their commitment to academic excellence.
